Crane load failures are mainly due to unsafe operator behaviors accounting for 73 percent of all causes. The rest is due to natural disasters and the environment. The most common causes are:
- Due to overloading, the cable is broken.
- Due to the load being entangled with surrounding objects.
- The brake of the lifting mechanism is damaged, the brake pads are worn beyond the specified limit, the braking torque is too small.
- Cables, load slings are worn or broken, cable connections are not secure.
- Due to improper cable connection.
2. How to overcome crane load drop
Through the above reasons, it can be seen that the cause of the crane's load dropping originates from the components: cable, brake and load hook. So the fix with these parts is as follows:
- For cables:
+ Select cables: must choose cables suitable for the required load, with appropriate bearing capacity.
+ The lifting cable needs to have the necessary length to lift and lower and must have enough reserve turns on the cable reel (usually this number of turns is from 5-10 turns).
+ Regularly check the condition of cables, based on the regulations on cable regulations to remove cables.
+ Comply with safety regulations in the use of cable locks, drums and pulleys.
+ The cable must be discarded when it is cracked or worn beyond the allowable standards.
- For brake:
+ When the brake belt and brake pads are worn by more than 50%, they need to be replaced. As for the brake wheel, if it is more than 30% worn, it needs to be replaced to ensure safety.
- For cable hooks:
+ Do not let hangers overlap.
+ When lifting heavy objects that are easy to slide, it is necessary to use cable pads placed under the details.
+ The hook technique must hook from the inside so that the hook head is facing out.
+ Regularly check the safety lock of the cable hook, if there are signs of damage, it must be replaced immediately to ensure safety and work performance.
